Two New Games: Metric Hunt and Rule It Out

Two new games arrive on Geocore, both built from a player's ideas. In Metric Hunt you find a hidden country from one clue per guess. In Rule It Out you and a rival each hide a country, then race to name the other's. Both are live in your browser at geocore.fun/play.

Metric Hunt: one clue at a time

A country is hidden, and nothing of it is on screen. Type a country or click one on the map to guess. Each wrong guess compares your guess with the hidden country on one thing, such as people, size, wealth, climate, coast, neighbours or how far north it lies, and tells you whether the hidden country is higher, lower or about the same. The clues stack up on a board, so every guess narrows the search, and the fewer guesses you need, the more you score.

Tip: begin with a middling country, neither very big nor very small. Its clue splits the remaining countries into two big groups, and every later guess can narrow them further.

Play Metric Hunt.

Rule It Out: your rival's country

You and your rival each get a hidden country. Take turns: ask one yes-or-no question about your rival's country, such as "Is it landlocked?" or "Does it border Chad?", and the game answers from its data. Every country the answer rules out is crossed off your board, and you can name a country at any time. The first to name the other's country wins the duel.

Tip: the best question splits your board in half. "Is it in Africa?" can cross off most of the world at once; "Does its name start with Z?" rarely does.

Play Rule It Out.
