Easier to Start, More Control: New on Geocore

Every game now starts on Easy for a new player, three favourites are unlimited for free accounts, and a new Borders option lets you make a map easier or harder to read. Hard now says exactly what it asks, and Q and E zoom the map, as they do in Geocore Classic. Everything here is live in your browser at geocore.fun/play.

Easy is where every game starts

Every game and quiz with a Difficulty setting now opens on Easy until you choose otherwise. Easy asks the places most people know: the household-name cities, and the best-known countries, flags and capitals. When you want more, pick Medium or Hard, and the game remembers your choice.

Easy and Medium are free. In most games, Hard is part of Geocore Pro.

Tip: play a new game a couple of times on Easy before moving up. The famous places become landmarks you can place the rest around.

Hard says what it asks

In games where Hard is the whole list, the option now reads Hard · every country, Hard · every flag or Hard · every capital, and the game's summary says the same. Hover over it, or tap it, for a one-line explanation. You'll see it in games such as Click the Country, Type the Countries, Flag Quiz, Capitals and Continent Sprint.

Nothing about how Hard plays has changed. It has always asked every place in play, the least-known ones included; now it says so before you start.

A Borders option for pin and city games

Choose how many lines the map draws, under Borders:

You'll find it in Pin Drop, Coordinates, Read Coordinates and Shape to Map, and City Sprint and City Heatmap gain With states. On one country's map, such as the US, the choice is States or Outline only.

Every game keeps the default it had, and dailies always use their own fixed map, so a daily score is still comparable with a friend's.

Tip: learning where cities are? Play Pin Drop: Cities with With states first, then again with Borders Off. The state lines show you where each city sits; the second game tests whether it stuck.

Three favourites, as often as you like

With a free account, Click the Country, Type the Countries and Flag Quiz are now unlimited when you play on your own. Practise them as much as you want: they never use your games for the day. Playing with friends in a lobby still counts as usual, and Hard stays part of Geocore Pro.

Closest City on the globe

Closest City to the Dot can now be played on the 3D globe as well as the flat map: each round turns the globe to face the dot. And every city game now draws its borders exactly like the rest of Geocore.

Border Route counts every right country

In Border Route, a country on the way is always counted as right, whichever end you start from. In Travel and Bridge, which ask you to walk from the start, naming a country further along now gets a friendly nudge instead of a wrong answer.

Q and E zoom the map

As in Geocore Classic, press Q to zoom in and E to zoom out. Hold either key to keep zooming smoothly. The keys join the ones the map already had: + and − to zoom, W A S D or Shift and the arrows to pan, and 0 to reset the view.

The keys never fire while you are typing an answer, and in a game that uses those letters itself, such as a drawing round's E for the eraser, the game keeps them.

Welcome back

Signed in, the home page now greets you by name. Beside the greeting, a card shows your level and your progress to the next rank, your streak, today's dailies, and Continue, to pick up the game you last played. Free accounts also see a slim line about Geocore Pro at its foot.
