1,300+ Map Quizzes: A Guide
Geocore has 1,300+ map quizzes: countries, capitals, flags, outlines, states, provinces and cities, for every continent and for the states, provinces and regions of countries around the world. Most of them are free, and you can play 10 a day without an account.
This guide covers how to find a quiz, the ways to play one, the timed formats, printing, and how many you can play.

Finding a quiz
Choose Quizzes in the menu, or go to geocore.fun/multiplayer/quizzes.
- Regions: the World, Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Oceania and the U.S., each with its own page.
- Search by name: "capitals", "Nordic", "Andes", "Japan".
- Filter the long list by region, category, format and plan.
- The quiz of the day is on the quizzes page: one quiz, the same for everyone, new each day.
Five ways to play a quiz
Most quizzes play in several modes. Pick one on the quiz's page.
| Mode | What you do | | --- | --- | | Click | A place is named. Click it on the map. | | Type | A place lights up. Type its name. | | Multiple choice | Pick the answer from four options. | | Name them all | Type every place you can think of. Each one fills in on the map as you name it. | | Learn | No score and no clock. Hover the map for names, and select a place to see its flag, capital, population and area. Choose Quiz me when you're ready. |
Your score is the share of places you got right on your first try, and your time breaks a tie.
What there is to quiz
- The basics: countries, capitals, flags and outlines for the world and each continent.
- Regions and groups: the UN subregions, the EU, NATO, the Commonwealth, OPEC, the Nordic countries, Latin America and more.
- By language (Spanish-, French-, Portuguese-, Arabic- and German-speaking) and by first letter.
- Physical geography: countries along the Andes, the Alps, the Nile basin, the Equator, the Mediterranean, and every landlocked country.
- Neighbours: the countries that border a given country.
- The U.S.: all 50 states, their capitals, outlines and postal codes, plus regions, coasts, the Great Lakes and the Thirteen Colonies.
- Cities: the biggest cities of the world, each continent and many countries, and cities by first letter.
- Countries' own maps: France's regions, Japan's prefectures, Brazil's states and many more, many with their capitals too. These are part of Geocore Pro, except the U.S., which is free.
Sprints and other formats
Some quizzes add a twist, each with its own page:
- Sprints. Countries of the world in one minute, or the long haul, all of them in 15 minutes.
- Clue sprints. 90 seconds to name countries from a clue: their first two letters, their neighbours, or a language spoken there.
- Sudden death. The first miss ends the run.
- Borderless map. Click countries on a map with no borders drawn.
- Empty map and missing places. Name places on a map that starts blank, or fill the holes in an otherwise complete one.

Printing a quiz
Every quiz prints for free, signed in or out, and a Pro quiz's sheets too. Each quiz has four sheets:
- a blank map
- a labelled map
- a numbered quiz
- its answer key
They print in black and white on A4 or US Letter, from the Printable maps section of the quiz's page. Choose "Save as PDF" in the print dialog to keep a copy. Printing never counts toward your daily quizzes.
How many you can play
| | Guest | Free account | Pro | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Solo map quizzes | 10 a day | 10 a day | Unlimited | | Every country's own map | Not included | Not included | Included | | Printable maps | Every quiz | Every quiz | Every quiz |
- The count starts again at 00:00 UTC.
- The quiz of the day never counts.
- A quiz you play with friends in a lobby counts as one of your games for the day, not as a solo quiz.
- Signed out, your results aren't kept. With a free account, My Results lists every quiz you've finished and your best score in each mode.
Quizzes with friends
Any quiz can go into a lobby. Open a lobby, add a quiz to its playlist, and everyone plays the same quiz at the same time, with a podium at the end to show who knows the map best.
